BAB EL OUED VIDEOS

Merzak Allouache's film "Bab el Oued City" (no subtitles) is available via the Internet in two forms -- a 92 minute video containing the entire film, and as ten shorter videos (most are 9-10 minutes in length). All of these clips are in their original language (Arabic and French) without subtitles, but by using the book "Bab el Oued," which was based on the original screenplay, an English- speaking reader can follow the action in the clips easily. To make that easier, the following table provides links to the ten videos and the associated page numbers from the book:

Links Pages in book Note
Part 1 1-27 This clip begins with Yamina writing a letter to Boualem, setting the scene for the events in the book, starting with the theft of the loudspeaker.
Part 2 27-33
Part 3 33-47 The sequence of scenes in parts 3-4 does not match the sequence in the book.
Part 4 47-55
Part 5 55-71
Part 6 71-82
Part 7 82-109
Part 8 109-117
Part 9 117-123 This clip is just under six minutes in length.
Part 10 123-132 This clip, which is just over five minutes long, ends with Yamina writing her letter, plus a portion of the film's credits.
