This article described the events leading up to the 1947 strike and argued that the Syndicat des Cheminots had exhausted all other solutions. This, and many other issues of L'AOF, contain articles supporting the strike. It describes the effects on Dakar, but doesn't have much on the Soudan.
This article lists railroad worker grievances and called the strike illegal because it ignored the results of arbitration. Those grievances were: a call for an end to the "indemnité du zone", creation of a single cadre for railroad workers, an end to the use of exams for promotion at the lowest levels, 15 days annual leave and three months of vacation afer 3 years, and company-supplied lodging for railroad workers, with priority for expatriate workers.
Work resumed on the Chemin de Fer Abidjan-Niger and at ports in Côte d'Ivoire on January 5, 1948. "Des reprises importants sont signalées également sur la ligne du Dakar-Niger" (a significant number of workers returned to work on the Dakar-Niger as well).
The Ministre de France Outre-Mer responded to a question from M. Luc Durand-Reville concerning measures taken to solve the 1947 strike. He mentioned the use of SNCF "specialists" who made it possible for work to resume on January 5, 1948 on the Chemin de Fer Abidjan-Niger and at the docks at Port Bouet. However, he explained that a series of accidents (boiler explosion, boats overturned) at the docks that were reported as acts of sabotage, were in fact the result of employing inexperienced workers.
