The Ligue Fran‡aise pour la Défense des Droits de l'Homme et des Citoyens (French League for the Protection of Human Rights and Civil Liberties) charged that the railroad administration abused its European employees. The letter specifically charges that workers were subjected to pverly long hours of work (11-13 hours), poor lodging in camps located far from work sites, and generally poor hygenic conditions that resulted in sickness.
